Choosing jewellery to celebrate the arrival of an adopted child

The push present is a traditional gift to new mothers to thank them for all of the hard work and sacrifice involved in the 9 months of pregnancy and childbirth. However, regardless of how a child has entered the family, it can be lovely to have some jewellery created that commemorates this special occasion.

Initials

One simple but elegant option is to get a necklace made with the child's initials. You can also get collection of pendants made into a 'mummy necklace' which can include the child's initials, and a fingerprint in mouldable silver clay, and other meaningful pendants or items which are combined into a necklace that can be worn next to the heart every day. You can also choose to incorporate a locket with a picture of the child inside, particularly if you are looking for a way to keep the first picture from the time that the parent/s got matched from with their child. This can be a very special and precious image for adoptive parents.

Birthstones

Another way that you can connect with a child is to incorporate their birthstones into a piece of jewellery. In some cases the exact date of birth might not be known, and often in this case the adoptive parents adopt the day that they meet their child as an 'adoption day' to celebrate this new stage of their life. These stones can be worn  in a more subtle way if the parents work in an environment where they need to wear more restrained jewellery.

If the child has a common stone name you can also use this in the jewellery (such as Pearl, Opal or Ruby) as another way to reference the child in the  jewellery.

Charms

Charm have undergo a renaissance over the past few years as they have taken on a more modern bead like style. Whether you like the more traditional style of charms or a newer style you can find charms that reflect the adoption of the child. This can also include some references to the country of origin of the child, or simply a reflection of the new stage such as a baby rattle or pram. The great thing about charm bracelets is they are also popular with kids so you can start a matching one for the adopted child.

Choosing a meaningful jewellery gift to commemorate the adoption of your new child can be a great gift for a new parent. Choosing a gift that suits the parents lifestyle will make sure that the gift is valued and worn often.
